Helpful Tips & FAQs
Do I need a power adapter?
Costa Rican outlets are compatible with US and Canadian electronics.
Do I need dressy clothes?
No. Playa Negra is casual and relaxed—think beachy, barefoot, and jungle-inspired. No need for formal wear, jewelry, or heels.
Is laundry service available?
Yes, we offer laundry service for $12 per load.
Do I need to bring my own yoga mat?
We have a limited number of yoga mats available on-site. If you prefer a specific type of mat or higher quality, we recommend bringing your own mat or yoga towel. Props such as bolsters, blocks, and straps are provided.
How much cash should I bring?
This depends on your plans—excursions, ceremonies, and tips are cash-only.
Lodging, meals, and spa treatments can be paid by credit card (subject to a 13% tax) or in USD cash (which qualifies for a 5% tax discount).
There is no ATM in Playa Negra—bring enough USD for your entire stay. Please ensure your bills are clean and undamaged.

Arriving in Liberia Airport
Customs & Immigration
After landing, proceed to customs and immigration. Wait times vary but generally take 20 to 40 minutes. Wi-Fi and restrooms are available.
Present the following:

Peace Retreat address (see below)
Baggage Claim & Agricultural Screening

Collect your luggage at baggage claim.

Pass your bags through the agricultural scanner.

Continue to the exit.
Meeting Your Peace Retreat Driver
Outside the terminal, look for the driver holding a Peace Retreat sign.
Be aware—other drivers may offer to carry your bags or sell services. Kindly decline and only engage with your Peace Retreat driver.
If you cannot locate your driver:

Head to the outdoor Britt Café (left of the exit).

Shuttle to Peace Retreat
The drive to Peace Retreat takes about 75 minutes.
Our trusted drivers will take excellent care of you. Tips are optional but appreciated—typical gratuity ranges from $10 to $20 USD per shuttle.

Should I exchange USD for colones at the airport?
Not necessary—most vendors accept USD. However, there is a currency exchange near immigration if you’d like to carry colones.
What if I can’t find my driver?

Go to the Britt Café outside the Arrivals Terminal and message us via WhatsApp.
Can my driver stop on the way to Peace Retreat?
Usually, yes. Drivers can stop for snacks, groceries, or drinks—just ask politely. Please be mindful of any fellow travelers who may be eager to get to Peace Retreat.
