Ayurveda Medicine: 7 Steps to Improve Your Life

As a millennium healing system from India, Ayurvedic Medicine understands that a daily routine is beyond necessary to pacify your dosha and bring radical change to the mind, body and consciousness. According to the principles of Ayurvedic medicine, listed below are seven steps to improve your life:

1. Wake up early

Ayurvedic medicine understands that each morning is a miracle. As the sun rises, the world’s light becomes delicate and our senses begin to awaken. According to Ayurvedic medicine, morning time is the best time to meditate and connect to the energies that start your day.

- Vata people should get up about 6 a.m

- Pitta people should get up about 5:30 a.m

- Kapha should get up about 4:30 a.m

Rise and shine!

2. Cleanse and rinse

The second important step of Ayurvedic medicine is to clean your face and rinse out your mouth with cold water. This ritual is done at both the beginning and the ending of the day. Cleansing and Rinsing awakens your mind and flushes out any impurities or congestion that have accumulated overnight or throughout the day. Additionally, if you wish to do so, you may add a nasal rinse in the morning to clean out the pollutants and allergens that block the respiratory system and keep your sinuses clean. It is also suggested to drop 5 drops of warm sesame oil in each ear to help regulate excess earwax, and prevent poor hearing.

3. Drink water

Swap your morning cup of tea or coffee and favor a full glass of room temperature water to clean your alimentary canal and gently wake your kidneys up. Your body will thank you!

4. Scrape your tongue

Unusual but…effective! Scraping your tongue acts as a massage to the entire body. Benefits of tongue scraping include the stimulation of internal organs, the aid of digestion, and the removal excess and dead bacteria and ama (toxins), which are, said to eventually cause illness.

5. Massage your body and scalp with oil

Massage your body with natural oils to nourish the body, increase longevity, and stimulate circulation. Massage your scalp with natural oils to prevent headaches, baldness, graying, and receding hairline.

- Vata people should use warm sesame or avocado oil.

- Pitta people should use warm sunflower or coconut oil.

- Kapha people should use warm sunflower or mustard oil.

6. Exercise

Exercising is a great way for us to pay attention to the signals of physical and emotional distress. Practicing physical activity – yoga in particular – will not only help to improve your circulation, physical strength, and endurance but also to strengthen your digestive power, energy levels, and mood.

- Vata people should do slow and gentle exercises.

- Pitta people should do calming exercises.

- Kapha people should do vigorous exercises.

7. Practice Pranayama

Pranayama – the universal life force. According to Ayurvedic medicine, pranayama is so much more than a breathing technique... Ayurvedic medicine considers prana (breath) as a tool to harmonize the mind, body and consciousness. Practicing pranayama exercises according to one’s dosha will reduce toxins and body waste, prevent diseases, improve self-concentration and potentially lead to a personal and spiritual journey.
