Honor What You Already Know

Last month, we left you with a simple invitation: Follow what feels alive.

Since then, we've been reflecting on why that can be so difficult. Life has a way of filling every available space: responsibilities, relationships, work, family...

Without realizing it, we begin responding to what everyone else needs while quietly postponing what we need ourselves. One of the things we've noticed over the years is how often people apologize for taking time for themselves.

"I know I shouldn't have left."

"I hope everything is okay at home."

"I feel guilty being here."

That has always fascinated us. Very few people apologize for caring for others, yet so many apologize for caring for themselves. Then, a few days later, we often hear another sentence:

"I didn't realize how much I needed this."

Not because their life changed overnight, but simply because they finally had enough space to hear themselves again. What have you been postponing? Not because it isn't important, but because everyone else needed you first.

Honor what you already know.

Take one slow breath. Now finish this sentence:

"I already know it's time to..."

Perhaps that first step is a conversation. A boundary. A walk. An afternoon with your phone turned off. Or saying yes to something you've placed behind "someday."

That's why Peace Retreat exists. Not to help you escape your life, but to create the conditions where you can reconnect with it—and with yourself.

Perhaps choosing yourself and what you already know isn't selfish. Perhaps it's where everything else begins.

My answer is "I already know it's time to resume my morning meditation practice." It's fallen off as a habit and I'm ready to commit again.

So good! These newsletters and guidance have proved to be so helpful to me, and I look forward to these every month. Thank you!!!
